Mountain Dew, a PepsiCo company, has dropped Lil Wayne as a sponsor because of backlash he received for comparing slain teen, Emmett Till, to a mangled vagina in Future’s “Karate Chop” (Remix), according to reports.
Earlier this week, Mountain Dew removed an ad created by Odd Future’s Tyler, The Creator, after it gained notoriety, in part, because Dr. Boyce Watkins referred to it as arguably “the most racist ad in history.”
This latest move also comes on the heels of Miami rapper Rick Ross losing his Reebok sponsorship gig after glorifying rape in the song “U.O.E.N.O.”
As previously reported, Rev. Jesse Jackson joined with the Till family to insist that Epic Records remove the offensive lyric and the song from radio rotation. But until his dollars were threatened, Lil wayne remain unapologetic.
